Juventus 3 - 0 Lazio

Thursday April 21 2016

Paulo Dybala’s brace and Mario Mandzukic ensured Juventus made short work of 10-man Lazio, as Patric was sent off.

The Bianconeri were closing on a fifth consecutive Scudetto, winning 22 of the last 23 rounds, but missed Claudio Marchisio, Giorgio Chiellini, Roberto Pereyra, Martin Caceres, Norberto Neto and suspended Alvaro Morata. Lazio had won both games under new Coach Simone Inzaghi despite an injury crisis ruling out Antonio Candreva, Stefano Mauri, Ricardo Kishna, Alessandro Matri, Stefan Radu, Milan Bisevac and Stefan de Vrij.

Lazio had managed just one draw from their last 10 meetings with Juve in all competition, including last year’s Coppa Italia Final and Italian Super Cup clash in China. They hadn’t won a Serie A fixture in Turin since December 2002, when Stefano Fiore bagged brace.

Federico Marchetti needed two very tough early saves on Paulo Dybala from point-blank range as he met a Stephan Lichtsteiner cross, then turning a Paul Pogba snapshot round the post.

Alex Sandro’s strike shaved a coat of paint off the near top corner, but Pogba really should’ve done better when he sprung the offside trap and went one-on-one with Marchetti only to get it all horribly wrong.

Dybala showed great work by getting back to defend on Filip Djordjevic’s counter, but it was increasingly just a siege on the Lazio area with Marchetti beating away a Dybala strike.

Pogba chested down a Hernanes corner and his cross-shot was toe-poked in from close range by Mario Mandzukic to finally break the deadlock.

The second half could not have started worse for Lazio. Patric received a second yellow card for a blatant shirt tug on Dybala, then Santiago Gentiletti hauled down Leonardo Bonucci on a set play and Dybala converted the penalty.

Dybala completed his brace by finishing off a Sami Khedira counter-attack while sliding in from 12 yards.

Marchetti kept the scoreline down late on with saves on Simone Zaza and Dybala.
