Serie A Side Juventus Releases Statement On Nike Case

Monday July 18 2016

Juventus released a statement on the reports of a €2M ($2.2M) damages payment to Nike "over a third star on the jersey post-Calciopoli," according to FOOTBALL ITALIA.

The reports in several Italian papers claimed that Juventus was ordered to pay €2M damages to Nike, its former kit sponsor, due to an incident in '12.

It was suggested that the club went ahead against Nike’s wishes "and released official merchandise with three stars -- representing 30 Scudetti -- when two had been revoked in the Calciopoli scandal." The statement said, "In relation to news published unlawfully today about the arbitration dispute between Nike and Juventus, since in breach of the confidentiality expected from arbitration governed by the 'Uncitral' rules, the club states that: 'The amount it will have to pay is far below two million euros'"
