Isla: I wasn’t good enough for Juventus

Wednesday May 25 2016

After arriving at the club with a troublesome knee problem, the full-back failed to reach the levels required to succeed with the Old Lad.

spite representing Juventus once last season before joining Marseille on loan, Mauricio Isla believes he isn’t talented enough to play for a top club like the Bianconeri.

The 27-year-old Chile international defender does not expect to return to the Turin club, believing his last appearance in the famous black and white stripes came during the club’s disastrous start to the league campaign.

Juve were stunned by Udinese on the opening day of last season and Isla earned a 4.5 rating from La Gazzetta dello Sport, though he’s since recovered and is now enjoying life at Marseille.

“I’ve always said that Juventus bought me when I had a knee injury,” Isla told Chilean newspaper LUN. “I am happy to have played with [Gianluigi] Buffon, [Andrea] Pirlo, [Arturo] Vidal and [Carlos] Tevez. But unless you’re at the right level at a club like that you have to go.

“Honestly, I was not able to play at Juventus, we are talking about one of the top 10 teams in the world. If you are not at that level it is better to find a new side.

“I joined Marseille and I feel totally happy with the life that I have. I’m not a Juventus player because I don’t deserve to be.”

Isla is expected to find a new club on a permanent basis during the current transfer window.
