Conte issues title warning

Monday April 14 2014

Juventus coach Antonio Conte has stressed that the Serie A title race is still not over and believes that Roma will push the Bianconeri until the very end of the season.

The Giallorossi reduced the gap to just five points with a 3-1 win over Atalanta on Saturday, and the Juve boss hopes that his side will rise to the challenge of being in the running both domestically and in Europe when they travel to Udinese on Monday night.

“The title race is still open, I’ve always said that. I expected the head-to-head with Roma to go down to the wire. They’re a strong adversary and will fight until the end,” the 44-year-old said during his pre-match press conference.

“It is certainly a stressful year both mentally and physically. At the moment we are boosted by challenging for the Scudetto and Europa League, which must give us the strength to reach the end in the best way.”

Conte also dismissed suggestions that Roma have been harshly treated by video evidence against Daniele De Rossi and Mattia Destro this season.

“I know what Juventus represent in Italy, that there are pro-Juventini and anti-Juventini. It might be sporadic for Roma to feel they are alone against everyone, but for us it’s systematic,” he continued.

“Before we had become likeable, because we were struggling, but now we have regained our rightful place. We’re happy with that and everything that comes with it.”
