A Carlos Tevez brace gave Juventus a record-breaking 2-1 home victory, ending 10-man Parma’s unbeaten record.

Something had to give, as these were the form teams in Serie A going into this midweek clash. The Bianconeri were running away with the Scudetto after five wins on the bounce, 14 consecutive home victories, and through to the Europa League quarter-finals. The Ducali were on a club record 17-round unbeaten streak, but their last defeat was at home to Juve on November 2.

Andrea Barzagli, Angelo Ogbonna, Federico Peluso and Sebastian Giovinco missed out for the hosts, while Walter Gargano, Gianni Munari and Nicola Pozzi didn’t make the trip. Marco Marchionni returned from suspension to face his former club. Parma had won only three times away to Juve in Serie A, drawing five and losing 13.

Parma had the first real scoring opportunity on 17 minutes, as Cristian Molinaro ran on to a long Alessandro Lucarelli ball and at full stretch volleyed for Gigi Buffon to parry from point-blank range. It was a great reaction save from the goalkeeper.

Carlos Tevez broke the deadlock with a powerful run down the right, holding off Gabriel Paletta, to beat Antonio Mirante at the near post despite the goalkeeper getting a hand to it.

Tevez added a second to his tally to go top of the Capocannoniere charts again. He spread the play down the right for Arturo Vidal, whose shot was parried by Mirante into the path of the former Manchester City striker.

Dias Felipe’s attempts to stop Vidal’s counter-attack reaching Fernando Llorente almost resulted in an own goal, but Mirante was alert.

Kwadwo Asamoah risked a second yellow straight after the restart for a foul on Jonathan Biabiany.

Parma did get themselves back into the game when a poor clearance fell to Molinaro, who unleashed a powerful left-foot half-volley just inside the box that beat Buffon at the near post.

However, Amauri received a straight red card for jumping with a very high elbow on Giorgio Chiellini.

The 10-man Ducali were still threatening and Biabiany almost caught the defenders napping. At the 89th minute Molinaro could’ve completed his brace, but he forced a save from Buffon at a very tight angle and Bonucci desperately scrambled the loose ball clear from Marco Parolo. Replays suggest Bonucci shoved Parolo in the back as they came rushing in, so it could’ve been a penalty.
