Allegri: “We showed the right attitude”

Thursday July 31 2014

The Bianconeri boss says he is satisfied with his players’ overall performance in tonight’s pre-season friendly at Cesena.

Massimiliano Allegri has expressed his satisfaction at the Bianconeri’s overall display in this evening’s goalless draw with Cesena, praising his players for their attitude shown at the Dino Manuzzi.

Speaking to reporters following the final whistle, the 46-year-old began: “Tonight was a good workout for us. It’s essentially the third day we’ve had together seeing as the internationals only returned on Monday. We may not have created a great deal but the right attitude was there and we managed to avoid picking up any injuries.”

This evening’s clash against the Serie A newcomers represented the second of Juventus’ pre-season fixtures, and Allegri believes regaining a decent physical condition is key at this stage of his team’s preparations.

“We’re chasing four important targets and there’s a lot to work on, especially from a fitness point of view, in order to give as much as we can over the course of the season. The team are very alert and full of desire to follow up a great season. We’ll quietly go about our business and look to improve.”

After starting with a back four in last week’s training ground runout against Lucento, Allegri reverted to a defensive trio for tonight’s trip to Emilia-Romagna.

Explaining his decision, he concluded: “It was unthinkable to go with a different tactical approach after only three days with the team, I only applied certain tweaks which the lads took on board.

“If we play well in a back four then we’ll go with that, if not we’ll stay as a three. But it’s the performance that counts at the end of the day.”
