Thursday July 31 2014

FC Pune City have confirmed that former French international striker David Trezeguet will be their marquee signing for the inaugural edition of the IMG-Reliance’s organized tournament ISL (Indian Super League) which is set to kick off in October.

The ISL franchise has a link with Serie A club Fiorentina and has already snapped up two Italian players, goalkeeper Emanuele Belardi and defender Bruno Cirillo along with former Padova and Parma coach Franco Colomba.

“We are involved in youth development in Switzerland, China and Japan; and California, USA and we would like to be part of the soccer movement in India.” said the CEO of Fiorentina, Sandro Mencucci who was attending the official launch of the Pune franchise along with head of planning and control, Leonardo Limatola.

“Trezeguet played for Juventus who were Fiorentina’s rivals, but we will work together here,” he added.

“ACF Fiorentina has tirelessly worked towards growing the level of football in Italy and through this link we only hope to help the much needed growth of the wonderful sport of football in a country as beautiful and lively as India.”

Trezeguet is the third World Cup winner to join the ISL after Spanish left-back Joan Capdevila and Arsenal legend Robert Pires.
