Tevez: 'My father is safe'

Wednesday July 30 2014

Juventus striker Carlos Tevez broke his silence on the kidnapping ordeal. “My father is well, healthy and safe.”

Segundo Tevez was kidnapped this morning while driving his car and police confirmed a ransom was paid for his release after eight hours.

“I thank everyone for their support,” wrote Tevez on his Twitter account.

“My father is well, healthy and safe. That’s the most important thing! I also thank Daniel Scioli, Mauricio Macri and the Buenos Aires federal police anti-kidnapping department for supporting my family.

“I ask you to come together and fight to take the country forward. Because here we should not pull for any political party, as we have to fight together.

"With sadness I admit it will be easy to criticise my country, but with all its flaws and virtues it is the country I love."

Tevez had been on his way to the airport for a flight to Buenos Aires when news came through his father had been released.

The forward therefore remained in Turin, but won’t take part in tomorrow’s game against Cesena.

Mauricio Macri and Daniel Scioli are the governors of Buenos Aires province and the city of Buenos Aires.
