Juventus defender calls for patience in Coppa Italia final

Wednesday May 18 2016

Rugani has made 17 Serie A appearances for Juventus in Serie A this season and is looking to win the Coppa Italia for the first time in his career.

Despite being favourites against AC Milan, Juventus defender Daniele Rugani believes that his side must remain composed if they want to win the Coppa Italia.

The Bianconeri are hoping to win a domestic double for the second year in a row after they beat Lazio in last year’s final in Rome.

Rugani also reaffirmed that the match is a one-off, which means Juve shouldn’t take things for granted.

“The Coppa Italia final is a one-off game, so we need to tackle it with focus and determination,” Rugani told Juventus.com.

“We need to be tough while remaining organised at the same time. A patient approach will be required, as the game will probably be decided by the minor details, so we mustn’t force things and go gung-ho.”

The former Empoli defender also highlighted what he thought was Juve’s turning point after a slow start to the season, and praised coach Massimiliano Allegri.

“The turning point of the season was definitely our defeat against Sassuolo,” Rugani added. “At that moment we laid the foundations for the title, one game at a time.

“The experienced players did so by dishing out a few home truths, while we young guns did our bit by showing the right reaction.

“I need to thank the boss. He’s been great with me, telling me I needed to be patient and keep working.

“My teammates have also helped me out a great deal, some with words, others by their attitude and the example they set.”
