Antonio Conte delighted with hard-working Juventus players

Monday February 24 2014

Juventus coach Antonio Conte hailed his tired players for their effort in a hard-fought 1-0 derby win over Torino

Carlos Tevez's first-half goal handed Juve all three points at the Juventus stadium.

The win was Juve's 13th in a row at home this season and lifted the Bianconeri nine points clear of Roma at the top of Serie A.

Roma, who won 1-0 at Bologna on Saturday, have a game in hand.

"It was a very important victory," Conte said to Gazzetta dello Sport. "We needed to respond to Roma's victory in Bologna.

"I believe our game was tactically perfect. My players played with cool heads and warm hearts.

"We allowed Torino few chances and tried to limit their counter-attacks.

"They have very talented players in (Ciro) Immobile, (Alessio) Cerci and (Omar) El Kaddouri and unless we were 100 per cent focused we ran the risk of letting them score."

The victory capped off a wonderful week for Juve.

The Turin giants beat Chievo 3-1 in the previous round before taking a 2-0 advantage against Trabzonspor in their Europa League last-32 tie.

Juve travel to Turkey on Thursday for the return leg before facing AC Milan at the San Siro on Sunday.
