Hernanes: ‘We’ve won nothing yet’

Saturday April 23 2016

Midfielder Hernanes reminds Juventus “we haven’t won anything yet”.

The Bianconeri will seal a fifth-consecutive Scudetto this weekend if they beat Fiorentina and closest-rivals Napoli fail to defeat Roma.

“We haven’t won anything yet,” Hernanes cautioned in an interview with Sky.

“The only thing that matters is the mathematics. There’s still a piece missing, so we have to get that piece.

“When I was at Sao Paolo [in Brazil] my mindset was always to get onto the pitch and win, now I’m here at Juve, a team which fully reflects that feeling I have inside me.

“We’ve managed to make our contribution after a difficult first few games. Everyone has had an extraordinary season to achieve that.

“If I had to describe our comeback in terms of music, I’d say it’s like one of those songs which starts off soft and slow, then grows and grows before exploding at the end.

“We’ve shown our value, not just in Italy but in Europe too, where we played on par with Bayern Munich. I think we’re ready to go all the way in the Champions League.”

The Brazilian had a difficult start to his career in Turin, but Hernanes believes he’s found his feet now.

“I know Italy and Italian football, but even so it took me a while to adapt. Now I’m happy and I hope to stay here for a long time.

“I’m comfortable in this [deeper] position, I’ve learned a lot over the months. I was maturing in the barrel, like a wine, now I’m ready to do even better.

“I miss the feeling of trying to score goals a little bit, but I’m sure that will come too. I’m getting better in this position.”
