Juventus coach Allegri close to making history

Friday April 15 2016

Having clinched the Serie A title and Coppa Italia last season already, winning both again would make Massimiliano Allegri the first coach in Italian football to do so.

With six Serie A matches to go and a Coppa Italia final to play, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is targeting another double in successive seasons.

Last season the Bianconeri tactician narrowly missed out on a treble of trophies but still clinched both the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia. He now ventures to become the first coach to repeat the feat.

Currently six points ahead of chasers Napoli and set to meet AC Milan in the final of the cup competition, Allegri could further etch his name in Juve and Italian football history should he win both titles.

Before him, Roberto Mancini had come the closest, winning the 2005 and 2006 Coppa Italia. However he only won the 2005/06 Scudetto, which was awarded to the Nerazzurri following the Calciopoli scandal.

The Old Lady themselves had won the Coppa Italia in back-to-back seasons, but were never able to add the Serie A title as well.

Nearing an impressive fifth consecutive Scudetto after a remarkable comeback to top the Serie A table, also on 94 points and edging closer to former boss Antonio Conte’s 102 points record, Allegri could be in for even more praise come the end of the season.
