Is Higuaín Fat?
Monday August 8 2016
There was no shortage of trolling from Twitter users on Sunday as Gonzalo Higuain’s questionable physique began to flood through social media news feeds.
Gonzalo Higuain didn’t have the best of starts for Juventus during his debut on Sunday, but the player’s day was tarnished even more as his fitness was lambasted by English and Italian fans alike.
A second half substitution in a 3-2 friendly victory over West Ham didn’t seem to bring out the best from the Argentine poacher, as he soon became a target because of his appearance.
Questions regarding his body build after entering the match quickly began to snowball into insults that stated he joined Juventus to win the “coppa” – a term meaning trophy or a pork cold cut.
As was to be expected, some particularly stinging comments arrived from Napoli supporters who suggested that he left the club because the Azzurri shirt was too tight.
“Fat” terms were even used by British commentators multiple times during the match played at the newly opened London Stadium, as the 28-year-old seemed to be consistently behind the pace.
Some post match comments from Bianconeri coach Massimiliano Allegri seemed to suggest that Higuain has some work ahead in order to reach the fitness levels of his fellow teammates, but it is also true that white is not the best colour for hiding a few extra pounds.
Higuain will hope for a better reception if he features at the Juventus Stadium on August 20 when the new Serie A campaign kicks off against Fiorentina.
